Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Fighters Table
Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes Teor (portrayed by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- But, their status as important members in the influential clan could assist the party enter places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The fighter pledged a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by the clan.
This leaves them few options but to head to Timmony in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.
Viewers can expect discovering which players will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
